State Representative District 4 - 1/6/2015 Special Election

On Wednesday, December 3, Governor Branstad called for a special election for State Representative District 4 due to the death of State Representative Dwayne Alons. State Representative District 4 is in Sioux County and include the cities of Sioux Center, Orange City, Rock Valley, Hull, Hawarden, Alton, Maurice, Granville, Ireton and Chatsworth. A map of the district is available on the Legislature's website.

Candidate List

A candidate list will be updated during the candidate filing period as candidates file nomination papers.

Voter Pre-Registration Deadline

Friday, December 26 - 5 p.m.

Voters may use election day registration procedures to register to vote after the pre-registration deadline.


Deadline to Request an Absentee Ballot by Mail

Friday, January 2 - 5 p.m.

Absentee ballots must be postmarked by this date and received by the time of the county canvass on Thursday, January 8, to be considered on time to be counted.
Tuesday, January 6 Election Day
Polls open 7 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Thursday, January 8 Deadline for absentee ballot to be returned. Ballots must be received by the time established for the canvass by the county boards of supervisors.

Absentee ballot must also be postmarked on Monday, January 5, or earlier

County canvass of votes must occur on this date no earlier than 1 p.m.
Mid-January State canvass of votes must be complete
