Secretary of State Matt Schultz credits Iowa Legislature for passing House File 675
(DES MOINES) – Today the Iowa Legislature passed House File 675. The bill updates Iowa's mechanic's lien law by creating an online database where contractors and subcontractors will post notice of involvement with residential construction transactions.
"The legislature has shown bi-partisan leadership today in passing a bill that provides consumer protection for Iowans. The Secretary of State's office will provide a new service with a statewide mechanic's lien registry ensuring that Iowans are protected when they are building or remodeling their homes and businesses," said Secretary of State Matt Schultz.
The Iowa Secretary of State's office currently manages online records for UCC filings, Business Entity filings, and federal tax liens.
