1,497 New Iowa Business Filings in October
Des Moines – Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz announced today that 1,497 new businesses filed paperwork with the state of Iowa in October. The 1,497 news business filings in October 2013 are a relatively slight 3 percent decrease since October 2012, while also showing a 22-27 percent increase over October 2008-2011 new business filings.
The amount of businesses filing paperwork throughout 2013 has been on the rise. From January through October 2013, a total of 15,775 new businesses have filed paperwork with the state of Iowa. Those year to date numbers represent an 18 percent increase since 2008 and a nearly 21 percent increase since 2009.
"The number of new business filings has continued to grow over the course of the year," Schultz said. "My office is working hard to make sure there are less hoops for business owners to jump through as businesses are built and jobs are created right here in Iowa."
Schultz regularly visits with community and business leaders at Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club events across Iowa to hear directly what is working and what isn't working for Iowa businesses and communities. As Iowa's Secretary of State, Schultz has focused on cutting red tape so Iowa businesses can continue to grow. Businesses are now able to file their forms online with the state of Iowa. Also under Schultz's leadership, www.sos.iowa.gov now offers a free searchable mechanic's lien registry to help residential homeowners, subcontractors and banks.
