Notary Search Help

To limit the number of records returned, you may enter information in multiple fields.

First Name
Enter the first name of the notary you are looking for in this field. You will receive a list of names matching the name string you entered.
Last Name
Enter the last name of the notary you are looking for in this field. You will receive a list of names matching the name string you entered.
Business Name
Enter the business name the notary works for in this field. You will receive a list of names matching the name string you entered.
City
Enter the city where the notary you are looking for either lives or works in this field. You will receive a list matching the city you entered.
Zip
Enter the zip code where the notary either lives or works in this field. You will receive a list matching the zip code you entered.
Language
Allows you to search for a notary that has reported they are bilingual in language(s) other than English. Specify, from the drop down, the language you wish to search. You will receive a list matching the language you specified.
Records Displayed Per Page
This allows you to set the number of records per page. Set to default (10 records), otherwise you may specify, from the drop down, the number of records you wish to display per page.
*Note that the maximum number of records returned from the database is 250.
Commission Number
Enter the commission number assigned to the notary by our office.

This screen lists the results of the search you have performed, showing the value of the fields you searched at the top of the page. To see detailed information on any notary listed, click on the notary's name. The fields listed on this page are described below:

Name
The name of the notary as commissioned.
Status
The status of the notary's commission.
City
The city in which the notary lives or works.
State
The state in which the notary lives or works.

Notary Search Additional Information Help

Original Commission
The date the individual was first commissioned as an Iowa notary.
Issue Date
The date the notary was last commissioned. Notaries who live in Iowa are commissioned every three years. The term of a notary who is a resident of a state bordering Iowa, and whose place of work or business is in Iowa, is one year.
Expiration Date
The date the notary's commission expires.
Type
The Iowa Secretary of State's office classifies notaries as to their type as follows:
  • Resident (resides in Iowa)
  • Non-Resident (resides in a state bordering Iowa and whose place of work or business is in Iowa)
Languages
Indicates the language(s), other than English, which the notary is fluent and has requested to be placed on the bilingual list.
