Pursuant to Iowa Code §50.51(5), a post-election audit shall be ordered for all elections. The Iowa Secretary of State’s Office will randomly select at least one precinct per county to be audited the day following the election. The drawing will occur at the Lucas Building Office of the Iowa Secretary of State at 9:00 AM the Wednesday immediately following each election. In Iowa, post-election audits are conducted by performing a hand count of ballots and comparing the results of the hand count to the results tabulated by the voting equipment used on election day. For information on when and where the post-election audit will be held in your county, please contact your county auditor. For information regarding the post-election audit process generally, please contact Molly Widen at molly.widen@sos.iowa.gov.
