DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate’s annual State Fair Straw Poll shows incumbents were favored in the races for governor and three out of the four races for Congress. More than 3,200 State Fair attendees participated in the poll. It was conducted on iPads inside Secretary Pate’s booth throughout the State Fair.

Along with Iowa’s gubernatorial and congressional races, John Wayne was chosen as Iowa’s favorite celebrity, Reba McEntire garnered the most votes for favorite State Fair Grandstand Act, and Pork Chop on a Stick won favorite State Fair food.

“Thanks to the thousands of Iowans who participated in the State Fair Straw Poll and visited our booth over the past 11 days,” Secretary Pate said. “We helped Iowans register to vote, provided free resources to small business owners, collected many new tributes for our Honor a Veteran with Your Vote program, and encouraged civic engagement to thousands of young people. As always, it was a terrific Iowa State Fair.”

Secretary Pate also expresses gratitude to Google Small Business, Iowa’s Small Business Development Centers, and the Iowa League of Heroes for their partnership during this year’s State Fair.
