Pate talks Safe at Home, Online Voter Registration

DES MOINES – Secretary of State Paul Pate discussed bringing the Safe at Home program and online voter registration to Iowa during an interview this week on the Mediacom Newsleaders program.

Safe at Home is an address confidentiality program for survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse, trafficking and stalking. The program will provide a layer of protection for participants. Safe at Home will be managed by the Secretary of State's Office.

"We don't want the person who caused them the anguish to be able to track them down and cause more of a problem for them. These are survivors of a violent crime. So, we're helping with voter registration on that front, drivers licenses, any kind of public document will be using this address confidentiality program that our office will be administering," Secretary Pate said.

Pate also discussed plans to bring online voter registration a reality to Iowa by January 1, 2016. The Secretary of State is working with the Department of Transportation to make the process a reality.

The Newsleaders program that includes the interview with Secretary of State Paul Pate will air every Tuesday at 2pm for the next month on Mediacom Connections Channel 22.
