Secretary Pate welcomes new CIO to oversee launch of Business Services upgrades, cybersecurity

DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announces the hiring of Brandon Sharp to serve as Chief Information Officer. Sharp will supervise the implementation of business technology upgrades, cybersecurity, and oversee the Information Technology Division in the Secretary of State's office. Brandon Sharp most recently worked as a director for the Iowa Department of Transportation.

"I'm very pleased to welcome Brandon to the team and will count on his expertise to help us serve Iowans at the speed of business," Secretary Pate said. "We are investing in significant technology upgrades for our Business Services Division and, like all businesses and government entities, constantly facing challenges with cybersecurity. Brandon brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the public and private sectors to this position. He will serve the citizens of Iowa well."

"Secretary Pate sees the importance and value in the relationship between the Information Technology Division and business units. I respect this approach and will do everything I can to continue to build these relationships and show the value of a strong Information Technology Division," Sharp said.

Sharp also pledged to enhance the office's cybersecurity and cybersecurity awareness.

"We will continue to enhance security where possible and partner with industry leaders, county auditors, other states, and federal agencies to ensure we are providing the safest possible environment," Sharp added. "We will also continue to train and expand training in cybersecurity to ensure that all staff are aware of their role in security."

Iowa businesses will see a significant enhancement in service from the Secretary of State's Business Services Division this spring when the Fast Track Filing system launches. That technological enhancement is just the first of many upgrades being implemented by Secretary Pate to assist Iowa's business community.
