DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate's Election Integrity Act was introduced in the Iowa Legislature Wednesday. The proposal is listed as House Study Bill 93 and is available online for viewing. As promised by Secretary Pate, the comprehensive package calls for modernizing Iowa's elections technology by establishing electronic poll books in every Iowa precinct. A Voter ID system, signature verification, absentee ballot verification and post-election audits are included in the components of the bill.

"Every registered voter who does not already own a driver's license, non-driver's ID, military ID, veterans ID, or passport, will receive a Voter ID card in the mail, automatically. This will apply to newly registered voters as well," Secretary Pate said. "No voter will be excluded and no eligible voter will be turned away at the polls."

Secretary Pate's proposal does not affect voter registration. He encourages the Iowa Legislature to adopt the bill, as proposed.

The overall purpose of this proposal is to continue to ensure the fairness of the election system in Iowa, while increasing measures to enhance integrity and boosting Iowans' confidence in the process.
