DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate will visit two Des Moines Metro high schools Tuesday to help eligible students register to vote. The events are held in conjunction with National Voter Registration Day. Details are below. Media is welcome to attend, but should obtain permission from the schools.

WHEN: 9:35 am
WHERE: Ankeny Christian Academy, 1604 W 1st Street, Ankeny.
WHAT: Secretary Pate will visit with social science teacher Kendall Stroeh’s class and talk about the importance of registering to vote. He will then help the eligible students register to vote and encourage them all to #BeAVoter.

WHEN: 12 pm
WHERE: Des Moines East High School, 815 E. 13th Street, Des Moines.
WHAT: Secretary Pate will visit with social science teacher David Mahler’s class and talk about the importance of registering to vote. He will then help the eligible students register to vote and encourage them all to #BeAVoter.

Background : National Voter Registration Month is held each September. It was created by the National Association of Secretaries of State in 2002 as a way to encourage voter registration and voter participation. National Voter Registration Day is supported by Secretaries of State around the country as well.
