PATE NAMES VEEDER TO KEY ADVISORY ROLES
(DES MOINES) Today, Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announced the appointment of Black Hawk County Auditor Grant Veeder to two key advisory groups:
"It is my honor to welcome Auditor Veeder and I look forward to working with him to better serve the state of Iowa in expanding voter participation and protecting the integrity of the election process," stated Pate.
The first is the Secretary's own Auditor Advisory Group that will provide advice and counsel on key elections issues. Veeder is one of just eight county auditors to serve on the advisory group. The Auditors' Advisory Group will explore policy, procedural and technical options within the area of elections and voter registration. This will include absentee balloting, expanding on-line voter registration, ballot security, and the growth in the use of absentee ballots.
The second is the federal Standards Board of the US Election Assistance Commission (EAC). Veeder is Pate's appointee to the board. The Standards Board was created by the 2002 Help America Vote Act and will provide recommendations and guidance to the core work of the EAC.
"I always welcome the opportunity to work with election officials on the state and national levels, and I appreciate Secretary Pate considering me for these positions," said Veeder. "I hope to work with others in striving for high standards in election administration and encouraging voter participation."
