Secretary Pate, Iowa League of Heroes partner for "Be A Voter" initiative, voter registration drive at State Fair
DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is joining forces with the Iowa League of Heroes to encourage all Iowans to register to vote. The "Be A Voter" initiative includes a voter registration drive from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, August 12 at the Iowa State Fair. Additionally, "Be A Voter" trading cards that feature the Iowa League of Heroes are available for free throughout the State Fair at Secretary Pate's booth.
This is a continuation of a partnership with the Iowa League of Heroes that launched one year ago to promote civic engagement in young people and voter registration for all eligible Iowans. State Fair attendees are encouraged to visit Secretary Pate's State Fair booth to collect the "Be A Voter" cards throughout the Fair, and to attend the voter registration drive on Sunday at 2 p.m. Iowa League of Heroes' members The Dark Knight, Wonder Woman, Spidey, Captain America and Star Lord will be on hand to take pictures with attendees and encourage everyone to "Be A Voter".
"We are already one of the top six states in the country for voter registration and voter participation, but I want us to be number one," Secretary Pate said. "My goal is for every eligible Iowan to register to vote and participate in our elections. Partnering with the Iowa League of Heroes is fun way to encourage everyone to register to vote, and to inspire young people to start thinking about civics and voting."
The Iowa League of Heroes is a group dedicated to helping others and making a difference in the community. They make hospital visits to children, and appear at charity events, fundraisers, and civic-minded causes. The League of Heroes strives to bring happiness and excitement to children of all ages through real encounters with the heroes.
Visitors to Secretary Pate's State Fair booth inside the Varied Industries Building will also be invited to cast a vote in the State Fair Straw Poll, make an Honor a Veteran tribute, learn more about the Safe at Home program, and other initiatives conducted by the Iowa Secretary of State's Office.
