Students statewide participating in Iowa Youth Straw Poll on Tuesday; Secretary Pate visiting schools in Johnston, Cedar Rapids
DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate will conduct the Fall 2018 Iowa Youth Straw Poll on Tuesday in schools across the state. More than 300 schools and 60,000 students, covering at least 98 of Iowa's 99 counties, have registered to participate. A partial list of participating schools is available at this link.
Students will be polled on the Iowa Governor's race and the U.S. House race in their district. They will also be asked if they plan to register to vote when they are eligible. Many participants will be able to vote in the November 6 general election.
"The Youth Straw Poll is a great way to introduce Iowa's youth to voting in a fun, hands-on way," Secretary Pate said. "You're never too young to learn about civic engagement and hopefully participating in the Youth Straw Poll will inspire them to get involved in their communities and be active in the electoral process throughout their lives."
Secretary Pate asked each candidate to submit a short video message geared to Iowa's Youth. The full playlist is available at this link.
