MEDIA RELEASE: Secretary Pate honors retiring Jasper County Auditor with NASS Medallion Award

DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate honored longtime Jasper County Auditor Dennis Parrott with the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) Medallion Award this week. Parrott is retiring on December 31. He has served as Jasper County Auditor since 2005.

Secretary Pate surprised Parrott with the award during the auditor’s retirement ceremony in Newton on Tuesday.

“I want to thank Dennis for his many years of public service and dedication to Jasper County and the people of Iowa,” Secretary Pate said. “He consistently worked in a bipartisan manner to ensure clean and fair elections in Jasper County and is well-regarded by his colleagues around the state.”

Secretary Pate appointed Parrott to the federal U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) Standards Board in 2017. Parrott was also the Iowa State Association of County Auditors’ legislative liaison for several years. He has devoted the past 36 years to serving the public in Iowa.

The NASS Medallion Award was created to honor individuals, groups or organizations with an established record of promoting the goals of NASS in the areas of elections, civic education, service to state government, and a commitment to giving.

“I am deeply honored to receive the NASS Medallion Award,” Parrott said. “I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Paul Pate-one of the very best Iowa Secretaries of State in the last 100 years, an extraordinary group of Iowa county auditors, and my outstanding office staff, all who work tirelessly to promote our democratic republic. Thank you all!”
